3d printing atthecoWe recently spent a couple of evenings at TheCo, which is a relatively new coworking/makerspace in Jackson, TN, learning the basics of 3D printing. Austin Thompson and Kevin Adelsberger, Co:Members of TheCo as they say, guided us through the basics of operating the MakerBot 3D printer and gave us a tour of Thingiverse, which is an online collection of anything you could imagine to print.

On night two Kevin showcased the 3D scanner by scanning one of the class participants into a 3D model. After talking mostly about the MakerBot on night one the focus was shifted to a Cube 3D Printer by Cubify. Austin walked the class through the whole process of downloading from Thingiverse, uploading to the Cube and printing an item for one of the class members. We wrapped up the class by learning a little about the future of 3D printing. Austin and Kevin pointed out that any member of TheCo has full use of the makerspace including the 3D printers, laser engraver, CNC router, conference rooms and GigaBit internet for only $75/mo.
